Loren Charlton

Graduated Purdue University in 1968. Brief service in the Navy. Started with United in Chicago - moved to San Francisco area in 1971 and been here ever since. I have had side jobs as a Flight Instructor, English Teacher for 'Latinos' and as a soccer referee. Am still an avid golfer (though not as good as I used to be).

2020 Update: I retired from United Airlines in 2016 and continued to live in California until April, 2020. We moved to Tucson AZ to continue retirement in an area "mas al gusto" and for a lot less "con que". Never been so glad to have made a move in my life. I remember the DeMolays and the Rats (I was a Rat). I recall the Pattersons (Mary was a classmate) as well as: Mrs Ansaldua, Mr. Pineda, coach Overstreet and Frank Wood (Minster at the United Church). As far as classmates, I recall Bobby Ancira, Joel Turok, Helen & Elizabeth Niven, Mary Zelmer, Nancy Sorth, Noel Webb, Jenny Sutton, Russel Holden, Frank Stone, Cindy Escalante, Sally Calderon; There are others but that is enough for here. I was only at AHS from 4th thru 9th grade. While my family continued to live in the DF, I fnished my last three years of high school in Wisconsin at St. Johns Military Academy.

I Lived in Mexico for 13 years - prior to that I had lived in Columbia for 6 years. The US was a foreign country to me. The earthquake that toppled the 'angel' and the demonstrations after the bay of pigs were exciting times - so was meeting JFK when he was in the DF for the 4th of July in 1961. My 1st wife and I were on board Mexicana flight 801 when it crashed while landing in DF in 1969 - we were on our way to Acapulco for our honeymoon.

My folks built a house in San Miguel de Allende and I have many fond memories of times spent there.

My father was transferred from Bogota Columbia to Mexico City in 1955 - He was President and General Manager of Mobil Oil de Mexico. My Parents continued to live in Mexico until around 1968. After living some time in France and Africa, the family returned to San Miguel around 1972-73 and lived in SMA until 1991-92. I attended AHS from 4th thru 9th grade leaving in 1961 to finish HS in the US. I returned on holidays and for parts of summer vacations throughout the rest of high school and college.

I played on the AHS basketball team. I also played little league and Pony League Baseball. Once we moved to the Golf Club I got the golf bug and played mostly (plus shooting) throughout my HS and college careers. I still play golf. I was a Boy Scout in Mexico and also a member of the Rats.
